Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank (CB) Mikhail Alekseev said that a new 100-ruble note will appear in Russia. According to him, the banknote will be released into circulation in Russia in the coming year, write “News”.
According to the deputy chairman, the draft design of the new hundred-ruble bill has already been approved. He revealed the timing of its appearance: the banknote will be made and put into circulation in 2022, however, the payment turnover will be gradually saturated with updated banknotes.

Alekseev explained that the Central Bank will need “a decent amount of time” to adapt the current environment to the new banknote. In particular, it will take several months for credit institutions to set up their counting and sorting machines, self-service devices (that is, ATMs) for a bill and test this equipment. The Russians will see the note in circulation in noticeable quantities towards the end of 2022.
At the end of March, the Central Bank announced the release in 2022-2025 of modernized banknotes with a new design in six denominations: 10, 50, 100, 500, 1000 and 5000 rubles. At the same time, the regulator refused to create 300-ruble bills with views of Yekaterinburg, despite the proposal received. On the front side of the new banknotes, they are going to place images of objects located in the capitals of various federal districts, and on the back side – attractions located on the territory of the corresponding federal district.
Each denomination banknote will be assigned its own unique serial number. In addition, the updated banknotes will acquire a new color. On the first banknote, one hundred rubles, they want to depict such symbols of Moscow as Red Square, Zaryadye Park, Shukhov Tower and the main building of the Moscow State University. Lomonosov.
However, Alekseev did not give a specific answer to the question of what sights of Red Square will be placed on the front side of the bill. According to him, it will be one of the most popular objects located there.
The experts interviewed by Izvestia unanimously confirmed that it will take time to “adjust” the equipment for the appearance of a new bill. So that citizens do not face unpleasant situations when using a banknote, serious preparatory work needs to be done, says the head of the Popular Front project “For the Rights of Borrowers” Yevgenia Lazareva.
Lazareva recalled that after the introduction of banknotes in denominations of 200 and 2,000 rubles into circulation, Russians experienced difficulties in making payments in stores, conducting transactions at ATMs and in branches of some banks. In addition, citizens had to explain themselves to law enforcement officers due to the lack of the necessary cash and settlement equipment.
Egor Krivosheya, head of research at the Skolkovo-NES Center for the Study of Financial Technologies and Digital Economy, agrees with his colleague’s opinion. He stressed that it is important to “fit” the equipment, since a significant number of operations are carried out without the participation of bank employees – withdrawing and replenishing an account through an ATM, for example.
Krivosheya added that even a cash register with the involvement of an employee with insufficient equipment readiness can slow down and complicate the process. The initial configuration of the equipment does not take much time, unlike its updating and testing for failures.
Lazareva believes that it is not enough to put a new bill into circulation. In addition, it is necessary to organize and conduct a wide information campaign on the appearance of new banknotes, within the framework of which the signs of authenticity will be explained to Russians in detail and in detail, as well as possible scenarios for the implementation of counterfeits will be revealed. With each replacement of banknotes, scammers try to take advantage of the situation and benefit from themselves, the specialist concluded.
