A car with military personnel returning from the Northern Military District to Chuvashia sank near Voronezh
In the Bogucharsky district of the Voronezh region, a car in which Russian military personnel were allegedly traveling went under water. They were returning home from a special military operation (SVO) zone. The car sank in the Don River in the place where a pontoon bridge had previously been installed.
SVO participants went to visit relatives in Chuvashia
The car with the military left the special operation zone on April 8 – they were heading on vacation. There were three people in the car in total. Servicemen Nikolai Nikolaev and Alexey Ivanov occupied the passenger seats; the driver, Alexey Petrov, was behind the wheel; whether he served in the Armed Forces was not specified. Along the way, the Russians contacted relatives, reporting on their movements.
In the Chuvash city public they said that on April 9, a car drove along the M4 Don highway through the Rostov region and entered the Voronezh region, where communication with the military was interrupted. “The car did not enter the Chuvash Republic,” the post says.
A relative of Nikolai Nikolaev left her contact number for communication with the public administration, but since April 11, the day when the post about the search for the missing was posted, no updates about the fate of the military have been published in the community.
The car with the military drowned at the crossing
According to local journalists, a car with Russian servicemen went under water near the crossing of the Don River between the villages of Galievka and Podkolodnovka. At this point on the river there is no permanent crossing and you can get to the opposite bank of the Don only by pontoon.
14th of April became known about carrying out search activities in the area of the pontoon crossing on the Galievka – Podkolodnovka section, where the military vehicle supposedly sank. At the time of writing, April 16, it is known that the military’s car was never recovered from the water. Search activities continue for two days. According to a relative of Nikolaev, getting a car can not because of the current.
They didn't get the car. Or maybe it’s a different car altogether, whether there are people inside at all, nothing is known!
In turn, some media claimthat the military could have managed to get out of the car. This information has not been officially confirmed.
Voronezh publications published footage of rescuers working at the crossing. They show how the Ministry of Emergency Situations officers put two boats against the current and are searching.
The regional department of road activities reported that the pontoon crossing on the Galievka-Podkolodnovka section is being dismantled “due to natural factors” and is now also in a dissolved state.
It is known that in the Voronezh region, as in other Russian regions, there was a river flood, due to which the region were flooded bridges, a dam was broken and residential buildings and adjacent areas were flooded.
The military may not have known that the pontoon had been removed
Locals told, that there might not have been warning signs near the opened crossing. It follows from this that at night the military could not notice that the bridge was raised and slide into the water.
However, the regional traffic department refutes this assumption. “Temporary road signs have been installed in accordance with the approved traffic management scheme for the period of raising the floating bridge,” officials said.
