The bus drivers’ strike throughout Spain is entering its second day after the strikes on October 28, but this time they are only calling CC.OO. and the General Confederation of Labor (CGT), after UGT and the Free Transport Union (SLT) withdrew from the mobilizations after reaching an agreement with the employers’ associations at the beginning of this week.
This strike, which reaches the doors of Black Friday and threatens to complicate mobility at Christmas if there is no agreement with the employers, comes due to the inability of these and the unions – half of them – to reach an agreement on the way to resolve a historic request from the sector: the advancement of the retirement age.
The unions that call represent approximately 40% of the drivers, but still, and as CC.OO insisted. to this newspaper, “all professionals in the sector are called to support it.”
According to the resolution of minimum services published by the Ministry of Transport and Urban Mobility, 50% of the shipments unless it is a route that has a single service, in which case it must be maintained normally.
In turn, the main companies that provide long-distance bus services will contact the holders of the tickets whose service has had to be suspended, offering them a free change.
As already said, CC.OO. and CGT have been left alone in their decision to maintain the strike schedule, which if there is no agreement They will continue on November 29, December 5 and 9 and from December 23 indefinitely.
Clash between unions
On Sunday of last week, the employers’ associations Confebus and Anetra reached a compromise with the unions to jointly present a request for reducing coefficients to Social Security. This is an agreement similar to the one that was already reached with the rest of the sector (truck drivers and taxi drivers) on October 25, but according to CC.OO. and CGT this time no maximum deadline was established to submit that request to Social Security, an argument they use to not support the agreement.
In a statement, CC.OO denounced that the other unions “They cannot completely call off the strike without the agreement of CCOO”nor “present the request for the application of reducing coefficients with employers without this union, since this is required by the General Law of Social Security, which states that the request must be presented jointly by the most representative business and union organizations.” ‘, which compulsorily requires the CCOO contest,” the note reads.
