Coinciding with Black Friday, today bus drivers will go on strike to demand an advance in the retirement age, as they did yesterday. The nearly 100,000 professionals in the sector in Spain are called to support the strikes, but however only the CC.OO unions are calling. and CGT, after UGT and the Free Transport Union (SLT) reached an agreement with the employers’ association at the beginning of this week.
As things stand, it is expected that the day will be similar to yesterday, with some delays – more so at peak times – but a moderate impact throughout the day. As yesterday, the Ministry of Transport has set some minimum services of 50% for all of Spainand from there there are differences by autonomous communities.
In Madrid, up to 80% of the minimum services of both urban and interurban buses will be guaranteed. For the Municipal Transport Company (EMT) they will be 75% in peak hours and 50% in off-peak hours. and for intercity buses, 80% during peak hours (from the start of service provision at 6:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.). Likewise, for night lines the Community has guaranteed 45% service coverage.
In Catalonia, For its part, the minimum services will be 40% during peak hours (from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.) and 20% the rest of the day. also in the case of the Barcelona municipal transport company.
As has already been advanced, beyond the expected delays in these cases and the breaking of some windows by pickets – as reported by the Confebus employer’s association -, few incidents were recorded yesterday.
The employers call the strike “unjustified”
It must be remembered that CC.OO. and CGT have been left alone in their decision to maintain the strike schedule, which If there is no agreement, they will continue on November 29, December 5 and 9 and from December 23 indefinitely.
As explained by a spokesperson to this newspaper, CC.OO. did not join the agreement that UGT and the SLT reached with the employers’ associations Confebus and Anetra, which consists of the commitment to jointly present a request for reducing coefficients to Social Security (with a view to delaying the retirement age), because said agreement was without a deadline.
The Confebus employers’ association, for its part, issued a note on Monday in which it calls the strike “unjustified“because the main demand, which was the joint presentation of the request for reducing coefficients to access early retirement, has already been agreed with UGT and the SLT.
