Ronald Koeman has been dismissed this midnight as coach of FC Barcelona, according to official sources from the Barça club. The defeat of the Catalan team in Vallecas has been the trigger for the departure of the Dutch coach before Saturday’s League game against Alavés at the Camp Nou and from which on Tuesday he will face Dinamo Kiev in the Champions League. The manager’s situation has been described as unsustainable by the Barcelona management after they had renewed their confidence at the end of the game lost in Lisbon against Benfica. President Laporta ratified Koeman before traveling to the Metropolitano to face Atlético.
The bad results chained since then, and especially the last two defeats against Real Madrid and Rayo, have caused his downfall one year after the resignation of former president Josep Maria Bartomeu. The current one is the worst Barça start in the League since the 1987-1988 season. In the absence of a transition coach, the board could speed up the hiring of Xavi Hernández. The former Barça captain, current coach in Qatar, has expressed his desire to coach Barça now even though he is not Laporta’s preferred coach.

Koeman signed for August 19, 2020, after the hard fall against Bayern Munich in the Champions League (2-8). The coach dodged the burofax of Lionel Messi and the resignation of Josep Maria Bartomeu as president of Barcelona. In his first season, he won the Copa del Rey. In total, the Dutch coach led a total of 67 games. He won 40 games, 11 draws and 16 defeats.
Last season, after an uneven start, the team emerged when Messi was activated. The Argentine finished the season with 38 goals in 47 games. This season, without the rosarino, Barça has started the course again without a clear direction. In the 13 games he has played, he has lost five. He has scored 16 goals and conceded 17.
In the League, Barça has 15 points after 10 games (they have a pending duel against Sevilla) and are six behind the leader, Real Madrid. In the Champions League, the Barça team lost to Bayern (0-3) and Benfica (3-0) and defeated Dinamo Kiev (1-0).
