The wall under the access to the south end of the Enrique Roca, full of graffiti and dirt, muddied the panoramic view of the stadium, but it was the first image that visitors and fans of Real Murcia had of it when they came to see their team play. Now, thanks to the artist collective Triple M Artists, the space will attract attention in a completely opposite way.
Months ago, the Murcia City Council, through the Municipal Graffiti Office, organized an ideas competition to carry out a 620 square meter mural that, far from staining its appearance, would turn the surroundings of the premises into something attractive. The winning proposal was that of the group of artists Triple M Artists, composed of María Soledad González, from Hellín, María Fernández, from Abarán, and María Escarabajal, from Redován. The three have completed the mural in record time, just over a week, despite the fact that the inauguration is scheduled for next Monday, April 29.
The members of the artistic collective that has renovated the space graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Murcia and it was then, during their studies, when they tested their skills together and discovered that the union worked. The murals were his first objective. While they were still studying, they decided to enter their first contest to decorate these surfaces: “That was the first time we faced a wall,” they explain. After winning it, Triple M Artists was born.

Since then, the artists have painted murals in cities such as Madrid, Alicante and Albacete, among others, and have participated in several exhibitions. His next work has already given Enrique Roca a very representative facelift. The idea they had was clear: to create a “kind of open-air museum” that would tell the story of the team from its beginnings. For this reason, the mural reflects the 100 years of Real Murcia through a combination of iconic scenes of the team, from their first shields to the songs that the fans sang years ago.
Some newspaper covers from the 1920s and significant photographs from that time also sneak into the design. In front, on a large scale and occupying the most visible face of the mural, is a tribute to Francisco Javier Echevarría, Ángel Pérez García, Sebas Sánchez, Pepe Vidaña, Salvador Campello and Pedro Chazarreta, some of the players from Real's golden era Murcia.
The three artists agree that it is the first time that the sketch looks so similar to the final result on the wall. They admit that, in this case, it was well developed previously, made to scale and measured “almost millimetrically”: “It's a decal, it's identical,” exclaims María Escarabajal.
A personal challenge overcome
Nine days after giving the first stroke, the members of Triple M Artists have almost finished the more than 600 square meters of mural. So they would have managed to finish their work in record time, even though they were scheduled to do it in approximately one month: “Because we like what we do so much, the hours fly by,” says María Fernández.
They affirm that, in addition to liking their work, another important factor that helps them be effective and agile when they paint is that they know each other perfectly. They know the exact tasks that each one has to perform, they know how to get along well and work as a team because “they are a perfect mechanism.” In the end, being able to finish a mural of these dimensions in the time they have done is a personal achievement for them and is something that confirms their united work: “It has been a challenge achieved,” they confess.
There have been many signs of support and affection from Real Murcia fans that the group of artists has received during these days. The fact that the fans have been able to appreciate what they do is very gratifying for them and they confess that it “encourages them to work more.”
