New York (Union)
The Arab Group in New York expressed its deep concern about the ongoing military operation carried out by Israeli forces in the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, which resulted in the death and injury of hundreds and the forcible displacement of nearly a million Palestinians.
The Arab Group said in a statement issued by it, “This military operation continues despite global condemnation and demands for an immediate halt to the military attack in Rafah, and an immediate ceasefire.”
She added: “This military campaign has greatly exacerbated the catastrophic humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip, and the occupation forces’ seizure of the Rafah border crossing, which is a vital lifeline for Palestinian civilians, has led to the deterioration of humanitarian conditions and the exacerbation of famine throughout the Gaza Strip.”
The Arab Group called on the United Nations Security Council to assume its responsibility and take decisive measures to ensure that Israel stops its military attack in Rafah immediately, and to demand an immediate ceasefire.
It affirmed its full support for the draft resolution submitted by Algeria on behalf of the Arab Group, which aims to achieve these goals, urging members of the Security Council to participate constructively in the negotiation process so that the Council can move urgently to fulfill its responsibility.
The Arab Group stressed that it is necessary for the Security Council to take immediate measures to stop this disastrous military operation, impose an immediate and permanent ceasefire throughout the Gaza Strip, and immediately increase the flow of life-saving humanitarian aid, including through the United Nations, especially through UNRWA Agency.
