The actors and developers of Silent Hill 2 talked about their experience with the creation of the long-awaited remake of the Konami survival horror, presented last night first during the State of Play and then as part of a dedicated event.
In the first video we find Luke Roberts, who plays James Sunderlandas he talks about how he tried to stay true to the original character while preparing for the role: a confused and disoriented man, rather than an action movie-style hero.
Salome Gunnarsdottir, who plays Mary / Maria in the gamespoke of her approach to the role as a work strongly based on that of the original performers, not a new approach to the enigmatic figure of the woman.
Over to the developers
Arriving on October 8th on PC and PS5, Silent Hill 2 was developed by Bloober Team, the studio responsible for Layers of Fear and The Medium, which faced this challenge with great enthusiasm despite being well aware of expectations of the fans.
In the video diary published by Konami, Let’s get to know some members of the team: from lead producer Maciej Glomb to creative director and lead designer Mateusz Lenart, through senior narrative designer Barbara Kciuk and senior combat designer Monika Chmura, finally arriving at technical director Mariusz Szaflik.
Everyone talked about how this project is important to them, about their firm desire to make the experience accessible even to those who don’t know the series but at the same time stay faithful to the original Silent Hill 2.
Bloober Team’s goal was to modernize the game while maintaining its atmosphere and improving aspects such as combat and the narrative sector. The former proved to be a real challenge, just as the transition from a static to a third-person view implied some changes.
The use of current technologies has allowed developers to insert a large number of facial animations for the characters but also a more strategic approach to the battle with the monsters that populate the scenario.
