UGT, FICA, CCOO and CIG have called a general strike for December 4 and 5 and offer a “last opportunity” for negotiation to the employers.
More than 100,000 workers from nearly 3,000 companies in the meat industry will go on strike on December 4 and 5 if unions and sectoral employers do not reach an agreement on working conditions in the sector.
In a statement, UGT FICA, CCOO and CIG say they hope that the employers «take advantage of the last opportunity that mediation offers to reach an agreement “If, really, you intend to avoid a conflict throughout the sector.”
«For this, will have to respond to our proposals and that finally salaries and other rights are in line with favorable economic evolution existing in our country and in the meat sector,” the unions warn in a harsh statement and in which they assure that they will not allow “companies to make money at the expense of the enormous effort and professionalism of the workers in the meat industry and “Then there is no fair distribution that translates into improved salaries and rights.”
The meeting to try to avoid the strike will take place tomorrow within the Interconfederal Mediation and Arbitration Service (a public foundation). If there is no agreement, There will be a strike that, if successful, will paralyze all national production for more than 48 hours. Well, there are 100,000 employees in the entire meat industry in Spain (23.9% of employment in the food and beverage sector), according to data from the National Association of Meat Industries of Spain.
