The restomod process and the conversions of great classics into electric cars have become widespread practice in the automotive world in recent years. In this case, however, the opposite process took place, with a full electric car that was instead transformed into a full-fledged ICE. The protagonist of this unconventional practice was a Tesla Model S, one of the electric par excellence: the specimen in question escaped a flood and YouTuber Rich Rebuilds has decided to transform it into a sedan with a V8 internal combustion engine derived from a Camaro, with all due respect to Elon Musk.
Changing a Tesla into a powerful ICE sedan was not an easy process – mechanics collaborating with Rich Benoit had to completely disassemble the sedan of the Palo Alto brand and remove the electric unit and batteries. Instead of the powertrain, a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 engine derived from a Chevrolet Camaro was installed, coupled with a six-speed manual gearbox. Some major changes were also made to the car’s rear subframe to support the differential. To make way for the eight cylinders, it was necessary to cut the standard A-pillar reinforcement and say goodbye to the front frunk.
The digital cluster and the instrumentation of the infotainment system has been operated regularly but instead of the usual spaces inside the passenger compartment, a lever for the sequential gearbox is now activated on the central tunnel. For the rest the car is in all respects similar to the original version. The external livery, on the other hand, was decorated with a bronze-colored wrapping. The ICE-T, Internal Combustion Engine Tesla as defined by the YouTuber has turned into a real muscle car, complete with a cap for the refueling of petrol instead of the housing for the charging socket.
