The time of year-end barrels is approaching! A Tesla that explodes by itself? No, they purposely made it shine. The news comes from Finland, where an owner of a Tesla Model S from 2013, Tuomas Katainen, he decided to blow up his car in a spectacular way. The idea is to make noise, express a bad disappointment about the cost of the repair necessary to restart your electric car: the replacement of the battery pack.
After a period of pleasant experience and use of the Tesla Model S, more began to appear error codes in the instrument panel and the intervention of a tow truck to bring the car into a Tesla service center.
After a month, the owner received information and a quote: the car can be repaired with a complete replacement of the battery pack.
How much does the TESLA battery cost?
According to the estimate received for the replacement of the Tesla Model S 100 kWh battery pack, the owner would have had to face an expense of approximately € 20,000, which is not covered by the warranty since the car is about 8 years old. We don’t know the full story, but there was a fear that it might not be the only thing to repair or replace, then the cost could be even higher.
Tesla Model S explosion, what happened in the video
The unfortunate owner decided not to proceed with the repair but to blow up the car in a former quarry using 30 kg of dynamite. A Tesla CEO doll was also placed on the roof of the Tesla at the time of the explosion. Elon Musk, launched from a helicopter.
Of the car there are few pieces left, but at least the owner seems to be satisfied with the result, even more than having driven it. He also points out that it probably is the first to blow up a Tesla.
Electric car maintenance cost
However, regardless of the story, the concerns for many are on maintenance costs of electric vehicles after the warranty period. Especially in the case of the brand Tesla, which tries to have a closed ecosystem, so there aren’t many opportunities for third-party services.
