A pick-up from the future. Four years after the official debut, Tesla Cybertruck it still remains an extremely futuristic car. Either because of its unconventional shapes, capable of recalling means of transport of cinematographic memory, see Blade Runner and Back to the Future, or because the technical choices made by the American brand led by Elon Musk are still far from finding a common application in the world automotive. And even if we will never see the Tesla Cybertruck on Italian roads, at least for the moment, the mammoth electric pick-up has nevertheless landed in Europe for a tour of the Old Continent which also touches the country. We went to Milan to observe it up close, here’s what the Tesla Cybertruck looks like in person.
A pick-up truck from space
Geometric shapes and its steel alloy cladding stainless steel make this vehicle unique in the sector. Cold rolled laminate was chosen for the bodywork which offers optimal sealing in all weather conditions as well as attracting the attention of those around it. Among other things, the body also uses the same materials used by Space X rockets, the company division that deals with space missions with the aim of reaching Mars. Cybertruck will not go to the Red Planet but it certainly offers great sturdiness, even greater than the classic frame with side members. In fact, it should be remembered that Tesla promises resistance to bullets and even a class 4 hailstorm. The structure mounts in the floor a structural battery packwith the 4680 cylindrical cells. Added to this is also the use of unique die castings thanks to the Giga Press for the front and rear axles, compared to traditional welding.
Dimensions of Tesla Cybertruck
Tesla Cybertruck it is 5.68 meters long, is 1.79 meters high and 2.41 meters wide with a wheelbase of 3.81 meters. The shock absorbers then allow an excursion of 406 mm so that even the most difficult routes can be overcome. The load capacity is 1,700 liters with the possibility of supporting a weight of 136 kg on the rear floor. Unlike the classic 12 volt battery for starting and accessory systems, there is a 48 volt accumulator for reduce wiring but also and above all energy consumption. From a technical point of view, on the Tesla Cybertruck we find the steering wheel by wire, not mechanically connected to the wheels but also equipped with a 48 Volt electrical system. There are also steering wheels at the rear to maximize maneuverability.
Interiors, versions and price
The interior is minimal as is the case with all Teslas. For the infotainment system we find a large 18.5” display while a second 9.4′ screen‘ is available to rear passengers. There are also specific 120 and 240 Volt sockets for electronic devices. Two versions of the brand’s electric pick-up led by Elon Musk are currently available in America, with a Tri-Motor or Dual Motor configuration. These are the Cyberbeast and the Cybertruck Dual, both with all-wheel drive and electromechanical locking differential. The Cyberbeast Tri-Motor it has a range of 515 km which can become 708 km if you give up a bit of load space for another battery, with performances that speak of a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.6 seconds and a maximum speed of 209 km/h. The weight in this case is 3,104 kg. The Dual Motor version has a travel range of 547 km (or 756 km by adding an additional battery) for 0-100 in 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 180 km/h. The first deliveries began in December 2023, with the price starting from 79,990 dollars, around 73,000 euros while it takes 99,990 dollars (91,000 euros) for the Cyberbeast. A rear-wheel drive version should also arrive in 2025 with a cost close to 60,000 euros.
