Tellado defends Mazón’s management and accuses the Government of “taking political advantage of the tragedy”

The spokesperson for the Popular Party in Congress, Miguel Tellado, defended this Saturday the management of the president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, during the first days of DANA. And he has accused the central government of “taking political advantage” of the catastrophe.

In statements to the media at a popular event in Ferrol, Tellado wanted to “value the work that has been done by the Generalitat”, but regretted that she has been “very alone” and “abandoned” by the Government. from Spain. “I wish the unity of society had been reflected on the political level, but unfortunately that could not be because the attitude of the PSOE was very different,” commented Tellado.

The spokesperson explained that one day after the worst hours of DANA, on Wednesday, October 30, the PP asked to suspend the plenary session in Congress “so that the Government could go to work and we could pay attention to what was happening in the Community “Valencian”. But, “unfortunately, the PSOE put its partisan interests above other issues. While we asked for the total suspension of the plenary session, what the PSOE wanted was to take control of the RTVE Board of Directors and appoint eleven representatives of the PSOE and its partners through the back door,” commented Tellado. These words take place hours after it was made public that Carlos Mazón had lunch on DANA day with a journalist to offer her the direction of the public television À Punt and that that is why he arrived late to the meeting of the Integrated Operational Coordination Center (CECOPI). ). “While the catastrophe was going on, the Government’s main interest was support to approve the Budgets and take political advantage of the tragedy,” added Tellado.

“Much has been said about the agenda of the president of the Generalitat when the one who was in the CECOPI was the autonomous government and the one who was very far away was the Government of Spain: Sánchez in India, vice president Teresa Ribera in Brussels and Paris and the number two from Ribera, the Secretary of State for the Environment, in Colombia,” he criticized. Along these lines, several members of the PP – among them Mazón – have tried in the last few hours to convey the idea that Vice President Ribera did not contact Mazón until 8:20 p.m. on Tuesday the 29th. But the vice president’s team assures that by that time I had called him three times without success. He got it on the fourth time. Asked about the regional president’s lack of response to calls, Tellado indicated that at that time “some of the communications were already failing.”

“I have the feeling that the third vice president is more concerned with becoming a European commissioner than with meeting her responsibilities,” added Tellado. “We believe that it has not lived up to the crisis. She has been missing for nine days and reappeared yesterday to give an interview. I think it is not acceptable,” said the popular one, who points out that “Ribera should not be a European commissioner.”

The spokesperson assured that he will support “all the Government’s actions to help the victims of the catastrophe.” “The Government knows that it has our votes to approve the royal aid decrees. So far it seems insufficient to us. The Generalitat has estimated the aid at 34,000 million euros and the first royal decree is around 10,000 million euros.”

He has also criticized the trip of Pedro Sánchez and Teresa Ribera next week to the Climate Summit in Azerbaijan (COP29): “Next week Mazón will appear in the Valencian Parliament to give an account of his government’s management. Pedro Sánchez and Teresa Ribera will not do the same. Pedro Sánchez is going to none other than Azerbaijan for a climate summit – what a paradox – to avoid parliamentary control and not have to account for his non-management. And Teresa Ribera will do the same and will not be there to explain her non-management,” he added.

Due to this trip, the Government has brought forward the Council of Ministers to Monday so that Sánchez can preside over it before traveling to COP29 in Azerbaijan on Tuesday, an appointment that Sánchez has attended every year since he has been in La Moncloa. The Executive considers that its presence this year takes on greater importance considering that the DANA tragedy has highlighted the challenge posed by climate change.

Regarding Mazón’s future, Tellado stated this Saturday that the current “is not the time to analyze responsibilities” but he has reaffirmed his defense of the management of the Generalitat. “We did not expect that while the Generalitat rolls up its sleeves and puts all its resources into at their disposal, the PSOE tried to take political advantage,” he repeated. Despite this, some sources comment that Mazón is left alone and that there are already important members of the Popular Party who have harshly criticized him, as reported by the deputy director of elDiario.es in the Comunitat Valenciana Sergi Pitarch.
