Television review Who can be a woman, the Norwegian riot asks – The short films of the evening provide everyday examples of the use of power

The new Kino presents two films whose events are set in a reality shared by women.

Short films presenting the theme New Cinema The program venue will see two films today, Tuesday, in which the characters are women and the events are set in a reality shared by women. The remarks made in them become just as much more general comments about our time.

Shake! (2021) is part of An individual caseshortcut set. Sonya Lindforsin and Aino Sunin the short film, directed and scripted, is at the company party. The stiff mood becomes even stiffered when someone makes the mistake of dancing instead of sitting down. That someone is the company’s ‘new recruit’ Eva (Wind Heinonen), a young woman who looks and behaves differently.

No one says anything directly, of course, but the message gets through.

An individual caseIn the series, the authors have sought to highlight the invisible exercise of power against women through everyday examples. Shake! that exercise of power becomes visible in the atmosphere of the work community, which taps the deviant with shame.

Dance is used naturally in film, after all, in many ways it is precisely the taking over of space: bodily self-expression and liberation by the power of movement, not to mention historical meanings. Eva seems to shake the shackles of the environment.

The film evokes thoughts rather than calls directly to the account. In the end, the creators have saved the gesture of reconciliation: Eva and her protagonist Kirsti (Wanda Dubiel).

Norwegian Who is a woman? (Hva er en quinne2020) challenges the viewer more sharply, and straightforwardness works.

Marin Håskjoldin the film, directed by the swimming pool, takes place in the changing room of the swimming pool, as has been the case on several occasions in recent years. The world is shaken when the transgender Juni (Mina Alette Høvik) arrives at the women’s locker room.

A bit like Shake! even now, the environment is beginning to set boundaries for one “wrong” act. The other customers of the swimming pool will start scolding, whose rights will be defended and violated when the transgender will undress in the same space as the others.

Arguments are familiar, but when transformed into shifts, their aggression and underlying attitudes become more prominent again.

What is illustrative is that in the film, the transgender to whom the conversation relates does not get very loud.

New Cinema: Shake !, Theme at 11:15 p.m. Who is a woman ?, Theme at 11:23 p.m. Both also in the Arena.
