Starting today, it will finally be possible to report illegal content and activity within private Telegram conversations.
Among all the messaging apps, to date Telegram is undoubtedly one of the most used: over the years, the app has in fact made the advanced encryption system its main strong point, gaining ground compared to WhatsApp and significantly expanding its user base and reaching the figure of 950 million active users. Finally, some important news is coming to protect users and the platform itself, especially regarding some illicit activities present within the messaging app: let’s discover all the details together.
Consequence of the arrest?
We recently left off with the arrest in France of Pavel Durov, CEO and founder of Telegramfollowing the poor moderation of the platform towards the illegal activities conducted. The famous messaging app has thus entered the spotlight of European Communityespecially due to the ever-increasing illicit activities conducted within it, thanks to the guaranteed anonymity of encrypted chats.
However, it seems that things are about to change radically, in a more or less near future: the portal CoinDesk would have in fact discovered a change within the Telegram FAQ, in the section regarding content moderation. Specifically, the new FAQ would suggest the possibility of report any illegal activities within private conversations, which until now were considered (by the platform itself) to be protected by the encryption system.
The Future of Telegram
From now on, users will be able to report any illegal activity using the appropriate function, which will then be examined by Telegram moderators. In the case of the operating system Android it is necessary to select the message in question, thus accessing the reporting option, unlike iOS where you simply need to hold down on the message.
This effectively represents the first step by the messaging app towards a greater control of content present within it. At this point, we just have to wait for further updates regarding the management of such contents, which we are sure will not be long in coming in the coming weeks or months.
