Yesterday represented an important step for the production of Stellantis batteries in Italy. The company born from the merger between FCA and PSA has announced the details relating to the construction of the new one Gigafactory of Termoli: the memorandum of understanding with the Molise Region and the other entities has been signed, and foresees that the plant will start with a capacity of 24 GWh per year divided into three main production modules, with Stellantis and the ACC partner who have undertaken to increase the industrial capacity of ACC to at least 120 GWh by 2030 and to increase the development and production of next-generation high-performance battery cells and modules.
On the matter clearly Carlos Tavares, the CEO of Stellantis, could not fail to intervene, who explained: “It’s a big day for Stellantis. We have taken two more key steps towards achieving the objectives of our ‘Dare Forward 2030’ strategic plan, with partnerships and investments to support our battery capacity in Europe and North America. In total, we will be relying on five Gigafactories, along with additional supply contracts, to reach our projected battery capacity of 400 GWh by 2030 ″. The second step to which the Portuguese manager refers concerns the definitive agreement reached by Stellantis with the Korean Lg Energy Solution to build the first large-scale electric vehicle battery manufacturing plant in Canada.
“The investment (between 2.3 and 2.5 billion euros, ed) strengthens the role of Italy – continued Tavares on Termoli – We are grateful to all the people involved in this investment which will ensure the future of the great community of Termoli. Transforming the plant positions ACC as a European leader in the production of batteries and reaffirms, thanks to the collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Development, the role of Italy in supporting the transformation of Stellantis into a company of technologies for sustainable mobility “. Satisfied with the agreement all trade union organizationswhich will soon meet with the number one of Stellantis.
