Taiwan cuts diplomatic relations with Honduras and closes embassy
The Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Honduras and the closure of the embassy in response to a similar decision by the Central American Republic, writes Reuters.
As Taiwan’s Foreign Minister Joseph Wu clarified, Honduras “demanded a significant amount of money.” The Foreign Minister also clarified that the Taiwanese ambassador has already returned to Taipei.
Earlier, the government of Honduras announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Taiwan. Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang held talks in Beijing with his counterpart from Honduras, Eduardo Enrique Reina, during which the parties signed a communique on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two states.
