There have been two victims of H1N1 type A influenza in just a few days at the San Bortolo hospital in Vicenza. According to what was reported by 'Il Giornale di Vicenza', it is a 55-year-old who died today and a 47-year-old who died yesterday. Both were hospitalized in very serious conditions in the intensive care unit.
“'This season's flu is characterized by the circulation of the H1N1 pdm09 virus (Pandemic disease Mexico 2009): this is the influenza virus that has circulated widely in all flu seasons since 2009. Calling it the 'swine flu' virus is a media legacy that makes one think of a non-seasonal virus', underlines the Prevention Directorate of the Veneto Region in a note.
''Every year respiratory viruses cause an increase in hospitalizations and mortality during the circulation period; at present it is in line with the flu seasons of the pre-pandemic period. The recent WHO report confirms that mortality is comparable to that prior to the Covid pandemic period. In any case, surveillance through general practitioners and pediatricians and hospital surveillance remains important. This flu strain is contained in the vaccine, available for those at risk and for all categories indicated by the ministry: vaccination is therefore absolutely recommended, even for a wider audience. The use of masks and personal protective equipment remains important in the case of contagion, and in more serious episodes, possible prompt therapy with antivirals, especially in subjects with risk conditions, but only after careful medical evaluation'', continues the Management.
''For reasons of clarity it is therefore best to make it known that noThere are currently no new cases of swine flu'but rather infections from the H1N1 virus, at the basis of the 'normal' flu wave which is involving large portions of the population'', concludes the note.
