Sweden Two women deported from Syria to Sweden – ‘Responsibility for those who voluntarily join terrorist organizations’

The women were accompanied by two children.

From northeastern Syria two women with two children have been deported to Sweden, says the Swedish government’s office.

Police received the women at Arlanda Airport in Stockholm, and the children were cared for by social workers.

Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde said women who voluntarily joined terrorist organizations should take responsibility for their actions.

“It’s a relief that children have been allowed to come to safety and out of cruel conditions,” Linde said.

About the government no position was taken on who women are. Aftonbladet has previously reported that the Kurdish administration had decided to send 28- and 29-year-old women with minor children to Sweden.

According to the Chancellery, Foreign Ministry staff and security personnel ensured that the deportation took place as smoothly as possible.

As of 2012, an estimated 100 women have traveled from Sweden to Syria to join violent Islamist groups and take part in the war.
