The Public Prosecution Service suspects the man for the time being of threat and of causing danger on the road, the North Netherlands Public Prosecution Service reports on Twitter. “The man is not being brought before these facts. That means he has been sent away. He remains a suspect and the investigation continues.”
On Wednesday evening, the highway around the Holsloot interchange in Drenthe was blocked with tractors in protest against the cabinet’s nitrogen policy. The highway was closed in both directions for some time. About two hundred sympathizers turned out for the action, according to the police. According to the police, a ‘threatening situation’ had arisen and after that the tractor would have run into the police car. The officers in the car reported attempted murder. About thirty to fifty people tried to prevent the man from being arrested. Police also arrested another person and one officer suffered minor injuries.
In recent days, farmers have taken various actions against the nitrogen plans. For example, farmers drove tractors on highways several times, they visited provincial houses and at the house of Minister Christianne van der Wal (Nature and Nitrogen), activists broke through a police deposition. Things also went wrong in the area of Kootwijkerbroek and Stroe, where police vans were harassed and officers were cornered.
