Mazón’s first change
This change, known late this Sunday afternoon, is the first confirmed after Mazón’s announcement that he is going to remodel the structure of his Executive to focus on reconstruction after the devastating DANA that has left more than 200 dead, thousands of victims and extensive material damage in the province of Valencia.
A 54-year-old lawyer, Camarero is a completely trustworthy person of the president of the Generalitat, who before winning the 2023 regional elections was clear that if he reached the Palau he wanted to have her in his Executive at the head of the portfolio in charge of social policies and equality.
His career and his experience in these matters, but above all his “empathy and sensitivity” They formed, as Mazón explained at Camarero’s inauguration, the “perfect cocktail” to manage social policies, together with their knowledge of the State Administration.
For this reason, Mazón entrusted him with the second vice presidency —which became unique when Vox left the Executive last July— and the Department of Social Services, Equality and Housing, in addition to serving as the secretary of the Valencian Government.
Extensive political experience
Camarero began his political career in 1995when she held a deputy seat in Les Corts Valencianes on the PP bench during Eduardo Zaplana’s first term as president of the Generalitat.
Five years later she became a deputy in Congress, of which she was a part until 2014 and where she served as spokesperson for the PP in the social services and equality commissionsand was a speaker for both the Comprehensive Gender Violence Law and the Equality Law.
Between 2014 and 2016 he served as number two in the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality, as Secretary of State for Social Services and Equalitywhen the modification of the Childhood and Adolescence Law was approved by which minors were recognized as direct victims of this violence.
From there it went to Senate (2016-2019), where he chaired the Equality commission of the Senate and the presentation of the State Pact against Gender Violence, after which she put aside political life to dedicate herself to being an equality consultant for companies, administrations and entities.
In 2023, when she was senior director of the company Contexto Político in Llorente and Cuenca, Mazón called her to be part of his first Consell, which allowed her to return from Madrid to her homeland and to the front line of politics to face a challenge which he described as “overwhelming, exciting” and “without a doubt demanding.”
The responsibility that the president entrusted to him in July 2023 was then defined by Camarero as the challenge of his lifefor which he had been preparing for decades, and a “golden finale” to a life dedicated to equality, he said.
