L’auction of the Super Nintendo prototype ultra rare, which we have already told you about, launched in Japan a few days ago, it was therefore blocked cancelled, after bidding had exceeded $2 million. No reasons were given as to why this decision was made. Opening the auction page you can read a notice: “Because this seller rejects offers from proxy services, we are unable to place a bid on this item.” Of course it is no longer possible to bid.
Yesterday offers for the prototype they had reached 300,000,000 yen (about two million dollars), for almost 600 raises. Considering that the starting price was 5,000 yen, this is a monstrous growth. For reference, the SNES PlayStation prototype reached $360,000 in 2020. Such a price increase may have raised some suspicion.
A coveted piece?
The design of the prototype, produced in 1989, is very similar to that of the model later placed on the market in Japan and Europe (it was different in the United States). There are few variables worthy of note: the color of the red power button, the position of the expansion port, placed on the front instead of on the bottom, the addition of a 3.5mm jack for headphones and the side volume regulator. There was also a nice developer sticker still attached.
The Super Nintendo Entertainment System, or Super NES or SNES if you prefer, is a console 16-bit produced by Nintendo, launched in the early 90s in Japan and later in America and Europe. It is an iconic machine, which remained in history also due to the dispute with SEGA’s Mega Drive, which for a certain period had overtaken it on the market. Considered among the best consoles ever, thanks to an excellent portfolio of titles, it is much loved on the retrogaming and collecting scene.
