The closed doors and inaccessible are a video game classic. How many times have you stopped to look at one using every tool in your current arsenal to find out if you could open it? One of the most famous is that of the snow-capped mountain (Cool, Cool Mountain level) of Super Mario 64 for Nintendo 64, remained untouched for 28 years. Finally, someone managed to reveal its secrets.
The door in question is interesting in its own way because it is not one of those clearly decorative and false ones, but is an active door, which opens after Mario slips off the edge of the mountain to get him out of a completely empty wooden shack. The problem, if we want to call it that, is that immediately after the door closes and becomes inaccessible.
Titanic efforts
Naturally it is a door not designed to be opened, so much so that the external handle is removed and there is an invisible barrier that prevents interaction with it. After all, what would be the point of going back? but do you think these details have dampened the players’ curiosity? Absolutely not, so much so that after years of attempts a way to access it was found, complete with an explanatory video on the system used by the speedrunner Alexpalix, and told by the YouTuber Pannenkoek2012. It is emphasized that they were not used hack to succeed in the business.
The footage itself is truly impressive in the sense that it shows a rare dedication to solving a problem that never really existed. To succeed you need to grab a large penguin that is nearby and use it to create a glitch that allows you to cross the invisible barrier that surrounds the shack and prevents you from reaching the door. As expected and as already reported, the interior of the building is completely empty. But this was already known thanks to the use of various hacks that had allowed it to be explored. After all, the developers didn’t want players to access it, so there was no point in putting anything in there.
Evidently they hadn’t foreseen that twenty-eight years later someone would force the game and really get into it, giving the right conclusion to an undertaking that was epic in its own way.
