Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Chairman of the Higher Committee for Health Emergencies, Abdul-Baqi Abdul-Qader Al-Zubair, called on citizens to abide by the committee’s directives and Security and Defense Council resolutions, calling for a commitment to wearing masks in public places and related health requirements.
Al-Zubair directed the Sudanese Ministry of Health to be fully prepared and ready to confront the growth and mutation of the Corona virus, stressing that the rapid spread of the Corona mutator may lead to the complete closure of the country, according to the Sudan News Agency (SUNA).
He called on government and private agencies to follow the instructions of the Ministry of Health to ensure safety for all, stressing the need for educational institutions to implement health precautionary measures.
The official also called on citizens to adhere to health precautions such as distancing, wearing a mask and washing hands, stressing the need to review the readiness of hospitals, and pay attention to medical and health cadres.
Al-Zubayr indicated that “the Transitional Sovereign Council is in full cooperation with the Council of Ministers, and will provide all assistance to develop health services in the country.”
Epidemiological situation in the country
The Undersecretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, said that the total number of suspected cases of infection with the Corona virus in Sudan since the beginning of the pandemic has reached 83,142, including 43,993 confirmed cases, and the number of people recovering since the beginning of the pandemic has reached 35,492.
The official revealed that the percentage of those who have been vaccinated so far has reached 2.8 percent, noting that “the percentage is weak compared to the countries surrounding the region. The World Health Organization expected Sudan to reach 20 percent at the end of the year, similar to the countries in the region.”
Ibrahim warned that “the ministry will take immediate, strict measures in the event of a community spread of the disease, which will lead to closing the areas where cases appear to prevent its spread.”
