Students from the College of Scientific and Technological Studies of the State of Mexico (CECyTEM), at the Coatepec Harinas Campus, State of Mexico, have launched an ambitious project for hydroponic tomato cultivation.
Their goal is to revolutionize traditional farming methods, minimizing the use of water and pesticides, while promoting agricultural innovation and environmental sustainability.
Under the title “Planting, Management and Evaluation of Hybrid Tomato Crops under Semi-Hydroponic Conditions”, this project represents a notable advance in the regional agricultural landscape, with an impressive progress of 72.2 percent to date.
Mexican students are at the forefront of agricultural research, exploring new ways to optimize food production in harmony with the environment.
The initiative, which seeks to reduce the water footprint and reduce dependence on chemical products, could have a significant impact on the conservation of natural resources and the preservation of the local ecosystem.
The main objective of the project is to deepen the study of the growth and development of tomato varieties under semi-hydroponic conditions during the autumn and winter seasons.
This research not only promises to expand scientific knowledge in the field of agronomy, but also raises new possibilities for more efficient and sustainable agriculture.
So far, students have made important progress, implementing innovative cultivation techniques, such as the change from traditional soil cultivation to semi-hydroponics, the careful selection and preparation of plants, as well as the implementation of automated irrigation and control systems. Of pests.
This project not only seeks to improve the way food is grown, but also aims to be a role model in terms of sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural practices.
The CECyTEM plans to carry out a series of events to showcase the results obtained so far, as well as the preparation of detailed reports to participate in the next Tomato Producers Expo, where they hope to share their findings and contribute to the advancement of the agricultural industry. in the State of Mexico.
