Two drunk Slovaks wanted to hijack a snow groomer on the Stubai Glacier. When this plan failed, they set off on foot.
Neustift/Stubaital – When people are drunk, they come up with absurd ideas. Last summer, two naked Bavarian tourists rioted in Modena, Italy. At the Tokyo Olympics, drunk Australian athletes wreaked havoc in the Olympic Village.
Two men from Slovakia aged 29 and 35 apparently didn’t want to be inferior. The two drunkenly rioted late Sunday afternoon (February 20) on the Stubai Glacier in the area of the Jochdohle restaurant. This was announced by the police in Neustift in the Stubaital in Tyrol. Accordingly, they wanted to get into a snow groomer. Of course, the snow groomer driver didn’t like that, so a scuffle ensued. The driver was able to prevent the Slovaks from implementing their plan.
Drunken Slovaks riot on the Stubai Glacier: authorities start a large-scale search operation
The police officers who were called, who were brought to the Jochdohle with the snow groomer shuttle, but there was no trace of the two drunks. A large search operation was then started, in which not only the police officers but also snow groomers from the Stubai Glacier Railway, the mountain rescue services from Neustift and Sölden, including search dog squadrons and helicopters took part.
The search was crowned with success after several hours. The mountain rescue found the two Slovaks unharmed around 9:15 p.m. in the area of the Schaufeljoch at an altitude of around 3,000 meters. The men apparently wanted to get to the valley on their own. However, they probably lost their orientation due to their alcohol consumption and got lost. They were driven into the valley with snow cats.
