Stellantis, a downsized future for Italian factories | FormulaPassion.it

The factory of the future that Stellantis is preparing to build in Sochaux, France, will serve as a model for the Italian factories of the group, which will soon undergo a similar transformation. Word of the global manager of the Stellantis plants, Arnaud Deboeuf, who explained how the Sochaux model will be replicated in our country starting from Melfiwhere the new “medium” electrified platform will make its debut in 2024.

“Yes, factories in Italy will also have to lose weight in terms of areas – admitted Deboeuf – It is a process that affects all the countries of the world and that in Italy it has already started in various plants. We have moved a plastic branch from another site to Pomigliano. In Cassino we started in advance the paint renewal works to better contain the costs due to the energy crisis. Effective countermeasure. There is no evidence that a large establishment is more effective than a small one. On the contrary. We do not close factories, we compact them, we adapt them to the context and needs “. Downsizing is therefore in sight for all Stellantis production plants in our country, also due to the evolution of several factors such as the Covid pandemic, the energy crisis, the shortage of microchips and the reduction in volumes, which have substantially changed the values in the field.

As underlined by today’s edition of Repubblica, thanks also to the interventions made possible by the 200 million euros of investments, in Sochaux in 2022 the production should reach 150,000 vehicles, even if the potential is 400,000 carsan average of 1,200 cars per day. “The same goal Melfi is aiming for, where in 2024 the ribbon will be cut to the modernization work of the group’s plant owned by Exor, a holding that also controls Repubblica through Gedi – reads the newspaper – Operations started a few weeks ago in Basilicata: a factory that has suffered several stops due to the semiconductor supply crisis, but where battery-powered models will debut in two years ”.
