Last weekend, we got to discover some user reports, via Reddit, who claimed that Gabe Newell, head of Valve, was personally delivering some units of Steam Deck. We had no confirmation of what was happening, at least not until now. The Valve official video which you can see above confirms the company’s initiative.
In the video we see Gabe Newell deliver Valve’s new game machine – Steam Deck – to some customers. The people selected are from the Seattle area, which is close to Valve’s headquarters (located in Bellevue). Obviously Gabe Newell didn’t travel halfway around the United States to deliver some consoles. The nice thing is that the selected ones received their unit in advance.
Unfortunately not everyone was at home. One of the shoppers, who had already reported this via Reddit, was on vacation that day with his friends and it was his wife who picked up the package. The woman, however, did not realize that she was in front of Gabe Newell and she asked suspiciously why there were cameras to record everything. It was a missed opportunity for the man, that’s for sure.
In the video we can also see that three people, who are loading a truck for a move, are approached by Newell and each receives a Steam Deck. Again this is information that we had already discovered: it seems that the three had not ordered the console, so it was a gift from Valve, an excellent opportunity to get some “free” advertising.
