Steam changed its guidelines by establishing a ban for games that include the ability to trade NFT or cryptocurrencies, or that use blockchain technology.
An unexpected stance for the platform Valve, which from this point of view seems to be moving in the opposite direction to the trends of recent months. While on the one hand China has completely blocked the circulation and mining of cryptocurrencies, on the other the Bank of America has admitted that it is too big a reality to be ignored.
As for the NFTs, which establish ownership of a digital asset, SEGA started selling them this summer, while the Sony betting platform distributes them without problems. In short, it seems that even the most important companies have gladly welcomed this novelty.
Of course, the situation quickly became difficult for the games available on Steam that use NFT and / or cryptocurrencies, and which will have to decide whether to review their formula, leave the platform or wait for any second thoughts.
This is the case, for example, of Age of Rust, the title developed by SpacePirate that uses blockchain technology and the NFTs of the Enjin platform, giving them away for players in the form of achievements.
According to the game’s authors, Steam doesn’t want to accept items that have real value circulating in its ecosystem, perhaps because it already runs a marketplace for products like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive that uses real money.
