Star Wars Outlaws will offer gods exclusive content to owners of the deluxe editions and the Season Pass, in this case a mission with Jabba the Hutt more than those we will find in the standard version of the game produced by Ubisoft.
Needless to say, controversy broke out and the French company had to entrust its spokesperson with an official response on the issue: Jabba's mission exclusive for owners of the Star Wars Outlaws Season Pass will be completely optional compared to the campaign.
The detail that infuriated users is that, apparently, the data relating to the mission in question is already on the Star Wars Outlaws disc or among the download files, when considering the digital edition, but they will effectively be blocked for players without the Season Pass.
The memory of the goldfish
Looking at what happened, it is clear that both parties are suffering from a form of amnesia. The idea of blocking certain contents and making them available in the form of DLC, in fact, comes from Ubisoft it is absolutely not new.
Assassin's Creed fans know this well they have been witnessing this practice since the time of the second chapter. Do you remember The Battle of Forlì? Of course not, if you haven't purchased it separately from the base game. And The Bonfire of the Vanities? Exact same thing. Oh, and the famous epilogue of Prince of Persia? The examples are numerous.
Complain about a policy that the company has been pursuing for fifteen yearsbut doing it every other day (and maybe turning a blind eye when the exclusive missions come out on your favorite platform!) doesn't make much sense, don't you think so too?
Just as it doesn't make much sense for Ubisoft to reiterate the same approach wherever we already know that it will spark fierce controversyfurther undermining an image that has suffered hard blows over the years, often in an exploitative and unfounded manner.
So what is the right way? In your opinion, is it legitimate to reward those who purchase the Season Pass with exclusive content? If yes, under what conditions? And when you don't think it's correct? Will this move ultimately put you off buying Star Wars Outlaws? Let's talk about.
