Nighdive Studios’ remaster of cult hit shooter Star Wars: Dark Forces has a release date and will be launching for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch on 28th February next year.
Announced back in August, the Star Wars Dark Forces remaster is being made in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, and will see the 1995 first-person shooter – which follows mercenary Kyle Katarn as undertakes covert operations to thwart the Empire at the height of the Rebel Alliance – get a welcome modern-day upgrade.
Nightdive Studios, the remaster specialists behind this year’s acclaimed System Shock update among many others, is promising resolutions of up to 4K resolution at 120fps depending on your platform of choice.
There’s also talk of “upgraded gameplay”, high-resolution textures, enhanced lighting and rendering, plus gamepad support (including a new weapon wheel, rumble, and gyro controls), across the original’s 14 levels – which toss in platforming, environmental puzzling, and a spot of melee combat along with all the blasterising.
So that’s the Star Wars: Dark Forces remaster then, arriving on 28th February next year for PC (via Steam), PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Switch.
