Something is moving on the front remake of the first Dragon Questwhich several informants considered reliable have now spoken about, given that the publisher Square Enix has registered a domain for Dragon Quest HD-2D on April 24.
More precisely, he registered the domain dragonquesthd2d.com. Currently clicking on it takes you to a completely blank page, so there are no details to share. The first to notice the recording was the informant Midori, who was also unaware of more precise information.
An important remake
So we can only speculate on that HD-2D, which suggests that the game will be maintained in pixel art, albeit with higher resolution graphics, probably redesigned, considering that we are talking about a work dating back to the 80s.
Dragon Quest (1985) wasn’t the first Japanese RPG in the strict sense, but it was certainly the one canonized the genre on consoles, thanks to some insights from Yūji Horii and the development studio Armor Project. It was developed with the collaboration of the mangaka Akira Toriyama, who recently passed away, and Kōichi Sugiyama, a composer who died in 2021.
More precisely, Horii found himself having to develop a role-playing game for NES using a controller with only two buttons, where computer role-playing games usually used a large number of keys for various actions. So he worked by subtraction, creating the essential interaction system that we all know by now and which has been taken up by countless other titles, first and foremost Final Fantasy.
A remake of the first chapter certainly makes sense, considering its importance in the history of video games. However, we will see if it will be faithful to the original or if it will be expanded in content.
