Spotify is expected to soon introduce the “Music Pro” subscription, which will enable lossless audio and some other additional features.
Spotify Music Pro will introduce lossless audio at a higher price.
Since 2020, it has been said that Spotify is working with the lossless audio compression format so that its users can enjoy the best quality in their favorite songs. Now the rumors are getting louder and louder.
According to a hidden code in the Spotify app, it details what to expect from the new, more expensive Music Pro plan.
The main novelty is support for lossless audio. Spotify provides FLAC audio files up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz. By comparison, Apple Music offers lossless files from 16-bit/44.1 kHz (known as CD quality) to 24-bit/192 kHz.
What is lossless audio?
It refers to an audio file that has been compressed without loss of information, meaning that the audio will sound exactly the same as the original master file.
In other words, the audio has more detail to be perceived by the listener. To listen to lower quality audio, it is recommended to use special equipment, such as high-quality headphones.
But to justify the higher price, Spotify also plans to add new features to the Music Pro plan. For example, the code suggests that Music Pro will unlock a new feature to “speed up, mix, and otherwise edit” songs.
“Some type of headphone optimization” is also detailed for specific models, such as Apple's AirPods. As well as more advanced AI-based filters to find and create playlists.
We hope Spotify shares more details of this new plan. Now the necessary question, would you pay more to have lossless songs and other features?
