Badajoz has decided to dismiss its coach Óscar Cano considering that the results do not accompany, having one of the best First RFEF squads. It does so after drawing one against Racing de Ferrol and remaining seven from the Playoff zone and nine above relegation. The club, immersed in an unprecedented economic crisis, bets on a sporting change to turn the situation around. A situation that does not turn out to be so negative, especially considering that the players do not get paid and that the survival of the entity in the long term is in question.
This is how the statement with which Badajoz says goodbye to Óscar Cano, his second Elías Martí and the sports director David Torices:
“CD Badajoz announces that today, due to the poor results in recent days, it has been decided to dismiss the coach of the first team, Mr. Óscar Cano, and his second coach, Mr. Elías Martí. communicated his dismissal to the Sports Director, Mr. David Torices as responsible for a planning that has not yielded the expected results. We cannot continue in a spiral of poor results with one of the best squads in the category. Therefore, a blow is necessary at the helm and at the same time a reduction in spending on managers in order to try, with the current squad and the incorporation of a new coach, to finish the season in the best possible position, without giving up anything.
In these moments of difficulty, the support of the fans is more essential than ever, who despite everything, have never abandoned the team and deserve to enjoy joy. The club must return to normality and for this we must work hard, with humility, with our feet on the ground, but without giving up the objectives set at the beginning of the season, which can once again place CD Badajoz in the place it deserves” .
A priori, this dismissal has nothing to do with the fact that the coach has been one of the most critical of the management and situation of Badajoz. However, the decision comes a few hours after Óscar Cano pronounced these words at a press conference: “Hope has limits. Everyone has their house, their mortgage, their circumstances, their situations and it’s not easy. It rains on wet and above all because we see that there is no possible solution”. With a new helmsman at the helm, Badajoz will seek the impossible: fight for promotion amidst the ruins.
The Badajoz crisis
Badajoz is in a limit situation. To this day, the club’s survival remains up in the air and the arrival of new investors, led by Diego García and Luis Oliver, It doesn’t convince fans or even the squad. Moreover, supporters and sponsors have threatened not to continue financially supporting the entity if ownership does not change in the coming months. After the departure of the Parras, it seemed that there was light at the end of the tunnel, but What has happened so that the social mass is more agitated than ever?
Luis Oliver has failed in several attempts to revive clubs from the bottom. In 2002, she bought the Carthagonova, the footballers ended up not getting paid and ended up selling the club and leaving through the back door. In 2010, he enters the Betis and ends up being tried for alleged false documents in the purchase of shares. In 2014, he changes the accusation and is sentenced for the purchase of “contentious shares”. He was also part of the salvation process of the Estremadurastill in critical condition. Upon his arrival, he promised to restore stability to the club. He ended up in a crossroads of statements and fight for the presidency with Franganillo. He took his leave without standing up to his promises.
His record has aroused the suspicions of people close to the club, unwilling to tolerate promises that will fall on deaf ears. José Antonio Pardo, one of the team captainsexplained the current position of the players: “The only solution is to stick together and kill or be killed. He has told us that the first team will not lack for anything, but we are here so that there is a future for the youth team, the women’s team and the club’s workers. We do not want them to promise us the gold and the Moor because when they can they will not fulfill it. When they don’t reap the fruits they believe in, they will leave the club in the most miserable of ruins and will disappear. The people who have entered come to turn the club upside down.”
His words also come from the past: Pardo coincided with Luis Oliver in Extremadura, in a convulsive stage and of extreme risk for the survival of the club. The fans, meanwhile, are in the same line as the players, whom they have not hesitated to support in times of storm. To the point of threatening not to renew the subscription, in case everything continues as it is. To top it off, the sponsors also send a direct message. Sausages Pepeone of them, emphasizes the following through a statement: “We want to inform you that, if the next season starts under the mandate of the new announced ownership, we will not renew said sponsorship, by not wanting to associate our image with attitudes of dubious seriousness”.
There was hope in Daniel Tafur
Seen the seen, the new ownership raised the possibility of transferring the shares or part of them to another investor. Daniel Tafur was the chosen one by Parra for the sale of the club, but finally opted for the proposal of Diego García and Oliver. The businessman was disappointed by the final decision, especially when he had the support and warmth of the faithful black and white fans. Tafur is the son of film director José Luis Tafur, who died in 2012, and actress Fiorella Faltoyano. He is dedicated to the management of investment funds globally and is also a professional poker player. His link with the region, due to his ancestors, led him to show interest in the club. In fact, he stated: “Badajoz has enormous potential that must be protected and led by a serious and economically solvent management”. However, the situation prevents us from taking a step forward: “Right now it is unfeasible. We do not rule out for later, once the judicial part of the sale process has been resolved, our entry into CD Badajoz if the buying group deems it appropriate“
The bankruptcy of Badajoz
Before reaching this situation, the Badajoz players have had to go through bizarre and hard-to-believe situations in the third category of national football. Through AFE, the footballers stated that they had not been paid for months, which caused some of the first team to not even be able to pay the rent on their houses. Those responsible for the entity’s material did not receive any financial support from the teamwhich gave rise to circumstances such as having to wash the clothes with the gel that the referees left in their facilities or the workers themselves having to prepare the post-match sandwiches in their own homes.
The footballers said enough against Sanse on January 26. After the referee’s whistle, the eleven starters ran to the bench, thus giving up playing the first minute of the match. His companions were waiting for them standing, embracing, forming a pineapple to viralize an unusual situation. The New Nursery never lowered its arms. He accompanied the moving gesture of the squad with a thunderous applause. They have not been left aside, despite the fact that the results have not always accompanied them.
Badajoz has proposed to its subscribers to give a small contribution to the club, beyond the cost of their seat. They have responded en masse and even made a successful collection to finance the most basic: meals, travel, sports equipment… Such support is also responded to on the pitch. The team is twelfth in Group I of the First RFEF with 30 points. He is nine ahead of relegation and has reason to believe that professional football is possible. The Playoff positions are seven points away. It would be a real miracle with a crisis of such magnitude, although the squad has a high level to face challenges of this caliber. Meanwhile, a much more important game is played: that of survival.
