Jannik Sinner’s choice to give up playing until his physical condition is 100% “is extremely correct. Athletes are not machines. It is right to stop to prevent a minor problem from causing a longer suspension of the activity”, Gianfranco Beltrami, vice-president of the Italian Sports Federation (Fmsi), tells Adnkronos Salute, commenting on the tennis champion’s decision to skip the Italian Internationals and not take the field until his problem is completely resolved at the hip.
“Sinner’s message is a good message for everyone – continues Beltrami – to preserve one’s body. And it also underlines a fundamental element: pain is an alarm bell for our organism. Never do sport when there is pain. The the first thing is to stop. It is the precise request that comes to us from the body and we must listen to it”.
