Since the end of the Cold War, NATO has managed to widen its umbrella to include former Soviet orbit countries and move its border of influence almost to the very gates of Russia. The Kremlin is not resigned: in 2008, in Georgia, it had already shown its willingness to use force to ward off Atlanticist aspirations on its borders.
