U-20 Women’s World Cup
Two goals from Inma Gabarro sentenced the match
Japan and Spain will revive in Costa Rica the final of the U-20 Women’s World Cup that they played four years ago in the last World Cup, after defeating Brazil and the Netherlands respectively in the semifinals on Thursday. The Spanish, with the Murcian Silvia Lloris in the eleven, obtained their ticket by defeating the Netherlands 2-1, with goals from Inma Gabarro (22 and 25), while Rosa Van Gool (54) discounted for the Dutch, in a duel held at the National Stadium, in San José.
In that same scenario, Japan defeated Brazil 2-1, with goals from Yuzuki Yamamoto (30) and Maika Hamano (84) for the Japanese and Cris (55) for the Brazilians. Now, Spain and Japan will face each other on Sunday in San José, in a repetition of the same final that both teams starred in at the 2018 World Cup in France, where the Asians defeated the Europeans.
The Hispanics were superior to the Netherlands, on whom they imposed their touch game, especially in the first half, where Spain scored their two goals. Gabarro scored the first by taking advantage of a serious defensive error, while the second was a great goal in the half-turn with a shot from outside the area.
Gabarro’s first goal, top scorer in the championship, with 7 goals, was the thousandth goal in the history of the U-20 Women’s World Cup. The Netherlands also discounted with a nice goal from distance by Rosa Van Gool.
In the other match, Japan dominated Brazil in the first half at top speed, which despaired and annulled their rival, who improved and created more danger after the restart. Yamamoto, the best of the match, took advantage of a bad rebound to put his team ahead. The Japanese took advantage of a defensive rebound to place the ball with her right and shoot with her left from the edge of the area.
The “Canarinha” managed to tie, also from the front, when Cris did not think twice and shot a ball into the goal that ended up going in after hitting the crossbar. In the final minutes, Brazil closed in on Japan, but on a counterattack, Yamamoto scrambled between several rivals and managed to assist Hamano, who beat the goalkeeper on her way out with a sublime touch at mid-height.
