Spain received this Tuesday the first 5,300 doses of the Jynneos vaccine against monkeypox, of the 110,000 acquired by the entire European Union, reported the Ministry of Health, and announced that “two more shipments are expected in the coming months.”

These vaccines are added to the 200 doses of Invamex that Spain bought from a neighboring country and that are already being inoculated at the request of the different regional governments, following the protocol approved by the Spanish health authorities, according to the source.
The Ministry of Health recalls that the new vaccines, which must be kept deep-frozen, are part of the purchase carried out by the European Commission through the Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA) and of which Spain will receive 10 percent (of the 110,000 doses) that will be “available to the public health authorities for the control of this outbreak”.
Infections at all ages
Health also points out that the European initiative has allowed member states “to have third-generation vaccines against this disease in an equitable manner based on epidemiological and demographic criteria.”
The Ministry of Health reported this Tuesday that the National Epidemiological Surveillance Network (Renave) confirmed, to date, 800 cases of monkeypox in Spain, which are distributed in an age range of 3 to 67 years, so infections have occurred in children.

However, the number of cases of ‘monkeypox’ that has occurred in Spain to date is greater, since the infections notified to the national health network do not yet include updated data from all regions, which are the ones with the health competencies.
The report distributed by the Ministry indicates that The Community of Madrid, the most affected region, has registered 436 cases to date, while its regional government indicated today that 773 infections have been certified of monkeypox since the outbreak began two months ago.
