Ghaia, gravel, and more gravel. Spa-Francorchamps is getting a makeover, also to host the Motorcycling World Endurance Championship. The changes will also affect Formula 1: not in the layout of the circuit but in its safety. In fact, the escape routes will change, made slower by the use of gravel in iconic points of the track: one of these is the chicane Bus-Stop, as the post shared on social networks by the circuit organization shows us.
The gravel will not only appear at the final chicane, but also outside the Brussels (or Rivage), from Blanchimont and it’s The Source. The works in progress also concern the climb that leads to Eau Rogue-Raidillon, a stretch where the stands and the chalet were demolished to widen the escape route, thus preventing the ‘rebound’ effect after the impact with the barriers, a dynamic that has characterized all the latest most dramatic accidents, including the one that is cost the life of Anthoine Hubert in F2 in 2019 and which caused very dangerous crashes in 2021 in the W Series and in the 24 Hours of Spa.
