The Supreme Council for Media Regulation in Egypt said in a statement: “Regulation rules and licenses will be issued for electronic content platforms such as Netflix and Disney, including their commitment to the state’s societal norms and values.”
The statement added that the council will take “the necessary measures in the event of broadcasting material that contradicts the values of society.”
The Media Council pointed out that the number of subscribers to these platforms in Egypt witnessed significant and unprecedented increases.
The council’s statement came two days after the General Authority for Audio-Visual Media in the Gulf Cooperation Council, headed by Saudi Arabia, announced that it had taken strict measures against the famous “Netflix” platform.
The authority, in addition to the committee of electronic media officials in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, demanded the removal of the infringing content on the Netflix platform.
