Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced PlayStation Stars, a new rewards program that will debut at the end of 2022 with free registration for all players. A bit like with Nintendo’s platinum and gold points on the Switch, PlayStation Stars will allow you to collect credits by participating in pre-established activities or simply playing a certain game according to the demands of the moment. Those who earn certain trophies will also be awarded Stars, including the first players to reach Platinum for a single game in their area. Users will also receive loyalty points, which can be converted into credit that can be spent on the PlayStation Store or physical products. Finally, PlayStation Plus members will automatically earn points when shopping on the Store. The Stars can also be exchanged for digital collectibles, which however Sony was quick to declare “not NFT”, so they cannot be exchanged or sold, but will be purely decorative. The loyalty program is very similar to those offered by the competition, both in the aforementioned case of Nintendo and in that of Microsoft with activities on Game Pass. This is another step by Sony in adapting to the offer, following the big change in the PlayStation Plus service.
