The Sony group announced on Wednesday that it will establish a new electric vehicle business unit while it explores the possibility of commercializing its so far prototypes and entering this automotive market.
The new branch of business, to be established this spring, will be called Sony Mobility and will focus on optimizing the use of artificial intelligence and robotics in electric cars (EV)to “explore” the viability of the group’s entry into the business of this type of vehicle, as explained in a statement.

The company made the announcement coinciding with the press conference of its president, Kenichiro Yoshida, prior to the opening of the consumer electronics fair in Las Vegas (CES), in the United States.
Sony starred in one of the biggest surprises of the event in the 2020 edition when it presented an electric vehicle prototype, the Vision-S, equipped with autonomous driving technology and developed in collaboration with several manufacturers in the sector such as the German Benteler and the Canadian Magna.

Sony’s interest in the auto industry comes at a time when competition in the sector has intensified globally due to the tightening of environmental regulations that have led manufacturers to focus on the development of these vehicles to try to reduce carbon emissions.
In this sense, Sony revealed this Wednesday a new EV prototype, a Vision-S series off-road vehicle (SUV) with speakers built into the seats to create a three-dimensional sound field.
The excitement generated after Sony showed his first prototype two years ago “It encouraged us to further consider how we can bring creativity and technology to change the experience of moving from one place to another,” Yoshida said during his appearance, collected by the Kyodo news agency.
