Adverse fate for Sonic Mania 2.
When it came out in 2017 Sonic Mania, no one expected the success it has had, making it the most successful title in the franchise, as well as a great success for SAW. The classic 2D style was a welcome return, making fans want a sequel, perhaps expanded and with new mechanics.
Certainly Evening Star Studios, the developer, would have been delighted to work on it, if only SEGA hadn’t stopped the project. This seems to be the case, at least according to “Zippo”, a well-known insider near the Tokyo home, in which the clash between Evening Star Studios and SEGA itself has created so much discontent that the sequel has been ruined.
While not going into details, it seems that the real problem was born in SEGA of America, making “unreasonable” decisions according to the insider. In the meantime, however, we know that Evening Star is developing a totally original 3D action-platformer. So, this is definitely not Sonic Mania 2, and that’s a real shame.
