At the launch of the version 1.0 of Smite 2 will be available in total approximately 50 deities, a mix of already known characters from the first chapter and completely new characters, but – from February 2024 – there will be 130 deities available in the original Smite. Why didn't all the deities make it into the sequel?
“One of the main reasons people tell us they don't want to start playing a MOBA is that there are 130 gods, each with four abilities and one passive, and I have to learn 600 things before I can start having fun, right?” he claims Executive Producer Alex Cantatore. “We think it's really important to start with a lower number and get to fifty pretty quickly, because that's a good number for diversity in the games, but it's still a low enough number that you can learn relatively quickly and not get overwhelmed.”
Smite 2: what will happen in the future?
Titan Forge Games is well aware of the fact that “every character is someone's favorite“, and continues: “We intend to grow the roster rather quickly… We know that people are waiting for their favorite Gods, [e] we really need to make sure we get the Gods here fast enough to make the current players really happy.”
“We want to look at each character: first of all, is there anything that makes you feel better when you play that character… any quality of life improvements we can make?” he says Travis Brown, general manager of Titan Forge. In Smite 1, “with Ymir's wall, there were times where you could place the wall behind you, but only if you moved fast enough. If for some reason you slowed down, the wall could pop up in front of you, right ?In Smite 2 we know that players want to put it behind, so we let them put it behind, so we're trying to make those kinds of improvements.”
As for the possibility that all 130 deities of Smite are in the sequel, we're not sure yet. Cantatore says, “You know, in the long run we'd like to bring every god, but there's a lot to bring, right?”
