Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) have increased considerably in Spain, especially in young men: last year, 36,983 cases of chlamydia20.7% more than two years before, 34,401 of gonorrheawhich rose 42.6%, and 10,879 of syphilis24.1% more.
According to the annual reportEpidemiological Surveillance of Sexually Transmitted Infections‘, published this week by the Carlos III Health Institute, the data maintain the upward trend of syphilis, congenital syphilis, gonococcal infection (gonorrhea), chlamydia (Chlamydia trachomatis) and lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) of the last two decades.
In all of them, as expected, there is a predominance of men versus women. And 80% of gonorrhea cases occurred in men, who also recorded 88% of syphilis, 98% of LGV and 53% of chlamydia.
The main cause of the increase in these diseases is the lack of use of preservative. Given this panorama, special attention has been paid to the ‘slamsex‘ either ‘slamming‘, a sexual practice that is gaining great popularity on social networks and is leading to a serious public health problem.
Explanation
And what does it consist of? It is clear: it is a modality of ‘chemsex‘, behavior led by the use of recreational drugs to intensify sexual relations. Mainly, it is usually associated with parties or meetings where euphoria and the prolongation of said relationships are sought – in the vast majority without condom-.
Specifically, three elements are combined: a sexual context (group sex, unprotected relationships with casual partners, etc.), the use of psychostimulant drugs (usually medephrone or methamphetamine) and the administration of these substances by injection.
Risks
All of this can cause a intense highresulting in a pleasurable and sexually stimulating experience, disinhibiting sexual behavior and generating bonds with the people with whom it is practiced. Furthermore, it allows maintain longer sex sessions and increase self-confidence.
However, it is still a practice that presents risks. By executing these practices without condomsexually transmitted infections such as hepatitis, gonorrhea, syphilis, chlamydia and HIV.
To try to stop the negative effects of this practice, it is advisable carry out epidemiological studies that treat infectious diseases, drug use and their consequences on mental health.
