Rebecca Ehnrooth got tired of the Finnish ski season program.
Skier Rebecca Ehnrooth, 24, announced on Instagram that he is ending his active skiing career. Ehnrooth says in his update that the love for the sport is still there, but the full dedication to the sport no longer ignites.
Above all, known as a sprinter, Ehnrooth gives harsh criticism of the Finnish skiing calendar. He says that the last nail in the coffin of his career was the lack of sprint races in the domestic calendar. The same thing was complained about the other week by the person who told about his termination Verneri Poikonen.
“The lack of sprints in Finland sealed the final decision to end this season. If the last sprint at the national level is in February, it's hard to get yourself motivated to ski competitively for another 2.5 months,” writes Ehnrooth.
“And if you ski your main distance, i.e. free sprint, twice a season, it is even more difficult to develop to the level you would like to be at. Toughness and lessons are best gathered from hard competitions.”
Ehnroot also thanks his parents and others who made his skiing career possible in his update. In the end, he also announces that his beloved hobby will not remain on the outside.
“This is not going anywhere, because the sport, as I already mentioned, is so dear to me. You can see me with a bag on my chest from time to time, and I still want to share the joy of skiing with everyone and stay involved in the scene, even if I'm not aiming for the top of the world anymore”, he writes and promises that there will be sports content on social media in the future.
Ehnrooth from Espoo represented Espoo Ski Club. The last race of his active career was the relay at the Äänekoski Championship, where the result was seventh place.
