“Today was a longer race and it suited me better. At the beginning of the race I tried to keep the pace calm and start steadily, but in fact I started too hard. Niskanen rose to third place in the overall race of the tour, 37 seconds behind Norway Johannes Høsflot Klæbosta, who finished fourth at 15 miles after a sprint win on Tuesday.
Niskanen won this same distance at the mc opening in Ruka, but after that this was only the second normal distance race of the season, which he skied to the finish line.
He interrupted the Lillehammer race due to ski problems and the Davos race was interrupted for health reasons. They were both free races.
The Tour de Ski continues after the break on Friday at the World Championships in Oberstdorf, Germany, last winter.
