Mäkäräinen only had one harder workout before the competition.

Kaisa Mäkäräinen realized his long-term dream in the Finnish skiing of Imatra on Friday. Parisprint freestyle skiing has always attracted the world champion in biathlon and the winner of the World Cup, but the opportunity had to wait for years.
“I can’t say that I was in the double sprint for the first time, because I skied the free double sprint in Lieksa in 2003. Now is the time for that,” Mäkäräinen laughed after the Finnish Championship final in Imatra.
“However, I’ve always wanted to ski this race. Every time I have had a free pair print in the Finnish Championships program, I wondered if it would be nice to go skiing. But no pair has been found in the club, or the shooting competition calendar has overlapped with the Finnish Championships. ”
Opportunity offered when the champion who finished his biathlon career a couple of years ago was found to be a teammate of Kontiolahti Athletes Inka Hämäläinen.
“Now I couldn’t refuse when the opportunity came,” Mäkäräinen said.

“I was a little skiing last Wednesday morning. After the run, a message had come from the club that “are you going to the Finnish Championships”. After that, I started to think a little more about what should be done to make it worth coming here. ”
Mäkäräinen sought refreshment by skiing during a power exercise on Tuesday.
“I did one harder workout for this. Here, too, I only skied for a minute and a half, and now I had to ski for three and a half minutes in each round. ”
The pace of Mäkäräinen and Hämäläinen was enough in the Finnish Championship finals instead of the fifth. Among other things, Mäkäräinen’s pace and especially hoe technique admired the championship Jasmi to Joensuu achieved with Anni Kainulainen.

Competitive experience was obviously rewarding, as Mäkäräinen repeated his skis in the cold from the cold to the cabins but in a good mood.
“In the morning before qualifying, I felt like I was asleep, because I had slept for a long time and only went for a run after that. That’s why I wonder how I even wake up to the morning race. Now, however, it feels like it went better in the morning than in the finals, ”Mäkäräinen said.
In the final, Mäkäräinen skied at risk.
“I thought we would pull every round as much as we leave,” Mäkäräinen revealed.
This was followed by a lactic acid bath, which he was no longer used to in the exercises.
“The endurance side is still my strength, but the body doesn’t tolerate acids. Acids already come in so much faster (than in an active career) and don’t get along when the body isn’t used to them. I have just been easy and fun skiing. ”
Last In the winter, Mäkäräinen defeated many Finnish World Championship representatives in the top ten of the Finnish Championships and missed out on the top condition. Riitta-Liisa from Ropose only 11 seconds. However, he no longer takes the stress out of the investments, so experience and fifth place are enough.
Competing is “easy and fun,” like training.
“Nothing can annoy anymore when you don’t even know what would be annoying. It is impossible to say what is a successful achievement or a failure when you have not worked for it, ”Mäkäräinen explains the difference to the peak years.
As a professional athlete, Mäkäräinen focused on goals and success. Now he gets a physical experience from the competition, which the mentality of the athlete does not bother to pursue in practice.
“I got to put myself in an area of discomfort,” Mäkäräinen justified his participation in Finnish cross-country skiing.
