On April 10, six suspects were arrested for the crime. According to local police, they were part of a “criminal gang that is dedicated to car hijacking in the province”. In addition, they recovered the deceased's car.
The suspects identified as Ndumiso Moswane, Fernando Siva, Nhlakanipho Dlamini, Franky Xaba, Maredi Mphahlele and Thembinkosi Hlomikhawu, appeared before the Roodepoort Magistrates Court, Johannesburg Municipality. They are accused of murder, possession of a firearm and ammunition without a license, aggravated robbery and obstruction of justice.
The court adjourned the hearing until April 25 in order to give the defendants time to seek legal representation. The defendants are expected to ask for baila measure that will be appealed by the prosecution.
The footballer's family, which is preparing for the funeral that will take place next Saturday, did not attend the hearings with the accused.
