In a press statement, a spokesman for the Egyptian presidency announced that Sisi’s participation in the climate summit comes at the invitation of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, whose country holds the current presidency of the summit.
The spokesman explained that “the Egyptian president will focus during the summit on issues of concern to developing countries in general and Africa in particular, especially with regard to strengthening efforts to advance international climate action, as well as emphasizing the need for industrialized countries to abide by their commitments within the framework of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.” As well as emphasizing Egypt’s aspiration to host the next session of the Climate Change Summit in 2022.”
The spokesman added that “the program of Sisi’s visit to Britain includes holding talks with Johnson, to discuss strengthening bilateral relations in a way that achieves the common interests of the two countries.”
Sisi is scheduled to hold a series of meetings during the summit with a number of heads of state and government, to discuss advancing bilateral cooperation frameworks, as well as consultation and exchange of views and visions on various regional and international issues.
